write about a movie from the 1930s

Pick one film from the 1930s and make an argument as to how the film reflects an aspect of 1930s history and/or culture. The 1930s saw a rise in anti-immigrant nativism, the great depression, the rise of Fascism in Europe, the beginning of Hollywood’s production code, and the end of prohibition. How do one or several of these events manifest themselves in the celluloid dreams they produced? I’m looking for insights that are under the surface of the film– not on them.
