For this paper, you will present an argument on a controversial food system issue. A list of possible topics is below. This 1000-word paper will have the following parts: 1. Introduction: Start with a brief introduction that appeals to the audience’s emotions (their belief in fairness, their attachment to the environment, etc.). You should state your debate position but try to use communicative strategies that will connect to the audience’s feelings and values. The introduction should not be more than 100 words! 2. Two arguments: The core of your paper will be a rational appeal based on published academic research and logical reasoning. Specifically, you will describe two arguments in favor of your position and you will support those arguments with evidence gathered from at least one peer-reviewed academic article from a scholarly journal. Each argument should be about 200 words in length. 3. Counter-Argument: Then, you will describe one argument against your position and you will provide evidence to support that argument from at least one peer-reviewed academic article from a scholarly journal. The counter-argument should be about 200 words in length. 4. Rebuttal: You will respond to this counter-argument with a well-formulated rebuttal (What does this argument overlook? Does it have weaknesses?). The rebuttal should be about 200 words in length. 5. Conclusion: You will conclude by emphasizing the importance of your position on this critical issue, and again you will appeal to your audience’s feelings and values. The conclusion should not be more than 100 words! Your paper should be in APA style for in-text citations and references. No quotations are allowed. At least two peer-reviewed academic/scholarly sources should be cited.
