Advertisements are designed to be seen by the masses; they are a form of media aimed at influencing target audience(s) to get a particular message out into society. While some advertisements are intended to entertain and persuade, others can be used to educate or raise awareness. Semiotics is a useful analytical method to interrogate the meanings and intentions of advertisements. Write an essay (1000 – 1500 words) in which you conduct a semiotic analysis of any one of the two print advertisements provided over the page: To support your essay argument: • Ensure the focus of your semiotic analysis is on the imagery, wording and composition of your chosen advertisement. • Research the contexts, aims and target audience(s) of the organisation/brand for your chosen advertisement and use this research to substantiate your analysis.
