Earth Atmosphere and energy from the oceans

Please watch the following videos and provide a short 150 summary. Your summary should demonstrate and understanding of Earth’s Atmosphere, how air masses move, what wind is, and the rain shadow effect. 



As we dive into ocean-atmospheric interactions, we will take a look at the many types of energy that come from the marine environment. This includes those, such as wind and solar, that use the physical space of the region and those, such a tidal and wave energy, that are dependent on ocean processes. Both are significant factors in human energy use.

We will cover these ocean processes in more depth in future modules, however you should know that surface waves and driven by the friction of wind interacting with the ocean surface.

Here is a list of the different types of energy that comes from the marine environment.

Wind blowing over the sea (offshore wind).

Floating photovoltaic (solar energy)

Tides (tidal energy)

Currents (ocean current energy)

Waves and swells (wave energy)

Temperature differences between surface and deeper water (ocean thermal)

Salinity gradient at river mouths (osmotic energy)

Microalgae (biofuel )

Please watch the included videos. The second video is a 39-minute webinar. The rest are much shorter videos. You will need to allow an hour to watch all the videos and your responses should demonstrate that you did watch all the videos and the complete webinar. You are welcome to do additional research if a specific type of energy interests you further but are not required to do so.
