Colette, “The Other Wife” Reading Report

This is good example of pacing, stablishing a scene and situation, then working through it, allowing certain perceptions and feelings to develop, without much change in the plot, but with strong effect by the end as to the transformation those last three phrases represent in the primary character, the Second Wife. Study how exposition and dialog create these effects; study the interiority of the Second Wife, and the dynamics of the three main figures throughout the tale.
