Assignment Briefing Report:

You are a Policy Officer based within the Legislation & Policy branch of the Western Australia Police Force responsible for analysing crime problems and recommending policy solutions. The Australian Centre to Combat Child Exploitation (2022) recently revealed there has been an increase in cases of child sexual extortion targeting Australian children (AFP, 2022; ABC News, 2022). This form of cybercrime involves threatening to disclose or release sexual material of a child unless they comply with the offender’s demands (Açar, 2016, p. 111). You have been asked by the Assistant Commissioner (Strategy and Legal) to draft a briefing note to analyse this crime problem, consider alternative policy options available to the Western Australian Police Force, and justify a corresponding policy solution. Your briefing note should adhere to the standard template (provided to you) and use a range of scholarly sources to substantiate and critique any empirical claims.
