2 short essay

Instructions

Guidelines: 

Use size 11 or 12 pt Times New Roman or Arial font Combined (that means both short essays together) should be at a bare minimum 2 pages, double-spaced. Combined, your essays should not be more than 5 pages, double-spaced. Please use in-text citation for specific facts and quotes. There is no need for a formal introductory paragraph in these responses. Please provide succinct conclusions. There is no need for a bibliography.

Essay Prompts: 

1) What was happening in the 1970s that led to a “pendulum shift” in American politics in 1980? (You must cite my content lectures on Jimmy Carter from Week 7, as well as Foner. And, if you are struggling to remember what I am referring to regarding a “pendulum shift,” please refer to the Week 2 lecture entitled “The Election of 1896 & Its Significance” 

2) Discuss what you believe to be the three most important developments in the U.S. since 1965. You must address the Voting Rights Act of 1965 as one of the developments, and you must cite my lectures on the Voting Rights Movement in your essay. It is up to you to choose the other two developments. Please make sure you use the Foner textbook and other assigned materials. 

3) What were the structural reasons/long-term factors that led to the Attica prison uprising (see video from Week 6)? What was problematic about the retaking of the prison? How does this fit into everything you’ve been learning?
